After four years, one overzealous pruning and one hard, early freeze my hydrangeas are finally thriving and blooming abundantly. I resisted the urge to cut a few stalks for as long as I could. Aren’t they gorgeous?

It seems like the three days that Gwen was away at Girl Scout residence camp vanished into thin air. Emma was so lonely without her big sister around to pester. No worries, the pestering began within 30 minutes of our arrival into the garage of the house.
It’s strikes me amusing that an 8 year old who counted down the days until camp can’t recall enough details to repeat to me after her experience that lasts longer than 10 minutes. She’s disappointed that they were not able to use the 60 foot climbing wall. She was so certain she would be able to use the climbing wall. She even had me take a photo of the wall during our open house tour of the camp last month. After all, we have a 9 foot wall on the playground fort in the back yard. What’s an additional 51 feet? Nothing at all, that’s what.
She roomed with three girls from the troop that she has been in scouts with for three years now. They were like a mini Sex In The City without the sex. They’re all fashion conscious - for the rising third grade set. One has a weight issue. One is from a ‘blended’ family with her father having custody believe it or not. One is totally immersed in church several days a week. Then there’s my Gwen. The athletic one with rock hard abs and closing in on 4′ 5″.
This was their time together, to be ‘big girls’ and not have any parental directions. In fact, the were informed they would absolutely not be able to call home unless they were ill and needing medical attention. How wonderful to have a nurse on staff and a doctor on call.
I never once worried she would need to call. She’s a big girl with two older sisters. She’s coming into her own, though we still have quite a way to go but she is getting a nice healthy start. Girls that age need that time away from adults to learn they can be alone and it be alright. I don’t need to be all up in her business 24/7 and I don’t want to be.
On the heels of camp was my annual checkup with the OB/GYN holding my oral contraceptive prescription ransom. What a lovely, lovely appointment……but I toughed it out all for that precious little piece of paper with 13 months of guaranteed gold written on it. Really, what do I have to complain about though? I know two people who have given birth in the last 5 days.
I’ll be 58 when my youngest graduates high school. They will be OLDER than that.

I’m 39 today and I feel pretty good about it. I’m not the type to freak out abut a birthday. I’m healthy, happily married and a Mother of two girls who are home from school for the Summer. I asked for, and received 1G of memory for my laptop so my Photoshop program will run faster. I have a lot of interests, photography and digital scrapbooking among them. Being a Gemini I know it’s part of my ‘code’ to have multiple projects going on at one time. Sometimes it’s chaos. But I manage to get them done. Today, however, I’m taking a day of rest. I haven’t cooked (if you don’t count the microwave) and I haven’t done laundry (I usually do 2 loads a day) so I count that as a day of rest. Tomorrow I will begin work on completing my 40th year……..
